2013 Major Bantam Boys (U14) Division 4 silver medalists!

2013 Ontario Cup Division 4 silver medalists!

Etobicoke, April 21, 2013 – The Kanata Cavaliers Major Bantam Boys (U14) took home the silver medal in Division 4 of the Ontario Basketball Cup losing a very close final 48-43 to CIA/Bounce.

To make it to the finals the Cavaliers had to beat two higher ranked squads, the Inner-City Saints and Motion Black, the eventual bronze medalists.  In both games, the Cavs had to overcome fourth quarter deficits where every possession was important.  For the many Cavs fans and coaches it was “Torture” basketball – stealing the catch phrase from the San Francisco Giants.

In an after game interview Assistant Coach Norm said, “I’m very proud of these young men.  All year they’ve been winning games coming from behind.  It says a lot about their character.”  Head Coach Craig stated, “Every player had an important role to play in this season long accomplishment and we showed everyone that we belong here (Division 4).”  Last season Coach Craig’s Cavs won the Division 6 title with a final ranking of 41.  This year’s silver medal means that the Cavs will be ranked in the Top 30 in the Province matching the coaching staff’s pre-season goal.

The Cavaliers commitment to team defence led to many of their season wins and contributed to their 22-10 overall record.  This past weekend they relied on that defence once again along with some outstanding individual efforts that need to be mentioned; Eddy Ilunga (17.2 ppg), Aiden Warnhotlz (11 3pts in tourney) and Michael Chen (7.6 rpg).

Well done boys!  Top 20 next year.
