It has been a very exciting year for players in Kanata Youth Basketball Novice program thus far. They support the program and provide a fun environment for the kids no matter the skill level.

Tournament in Osgoode - January 2005
Over the Christmas break Team 5 coached by Don Wilson participated in a tournament in Osgoode. Seeing the skill levels of competitive teams for Osgoode and Cornwall coaches Don Wilson and Andrea Morrison decided to recruit a competitive team together and participate in tournament in Cornwall on January 9th. The team was put together through try-outs with 6 of the 8 teams supplying their best 3 players to try-out. Eleven boys and one girl made the team. With little or no practice the tournament in Cornwall was very exciting. The team played for the first time together and impressed other teams.
In future the Novice program plans to take players who did not make the initial competitive team along with other players to make 2 competitive teams and host a tournament in April inviting 6 other teams form neighboring communities.
Season Kick Off Tournament - December 2004
In early December the league had a pre-season tournament. Teams were spilt into 2 divisions, the 4 co-ed teams played against each other and the 4 boys teams played against each other in the other division. Games were very close, in fact, there was a three-way tie and points for and against was used to determine who would play in the semi-finals. Team 6 coached by Stephen Nicholson and Team 7 coached by Paolo Hollands played in the final together at Castlefrank. Although Team 7 put up a good fight, the experience and skill of Team 6, a co-ed team, over took them and became the Novice champions. Due to the success of this tournament we will plan to have it every year.
Watch out, Kanata, these dedicated players will be coming to a court near you, come by and cheer on our young basketball stars.
