The
KYBA offers recreational and competitive basketball for children and youth ranging in age from 5 to 18 years of age. The association was founded in 1988's to grow the sport of basketball in the nation's capital. Over 30,000 youth players have participated in
KYBA programs,
and in that same time, over 2,500 volunteer coaches and executives have contributed their efforts to growing basketball in Ottawa.
KYBA General Information
For over 30 years, the KYBA has proudly offered an opportunity for youth in the community to play at Competitive levels, or with the ever popular House League program which provides youth an exposure to the game of basketball in a recreational setting.
The primary objective of the KYBA is:
- to create a unique basketball experience for the Kanata and greater Ottawa communities
- to grow and promote boys and girls basketball through our various programs
- to provide a fun and healthy environment via recreational and competitive programs with thorough instruction, personal growth and skill development
- to enable development of fundamental skills and increase our athletes' abilities to compete at elite levels
The KYBA offers programs to suit the needs of student athletes, ranging from those who are just starting out, to the experienced competitive player. Both practice and league play are designed to offer opportunities for all athletes to focus on physical fitness, teamwork and skill development.
Our programs serve the need of players who are looking to have fun and play ball with their friends, but also presents opportunities for top level players to gain skills and receive exposure at the next level.
In the 2012-2013 season, the KYBA introduced an elite program, following a partnership agreement with the Ottawa Next Level Basketball Academy. To streamline philosophies and bring players together who can compete and challenge each others game, a reorganization of the Competitive program was completed for the 2013-2014 season.
Through this change, the Kanata Cavaliers name is recognized under our
KYBA Tykes, House League and House League Selects programs, Meanwhile, Competitive teams are recognized under the name Ottawa Next Level.
The KYBA is run in association with:
- Eastern Ontario Basketball Association (EOBA)
- Ontario Basketball Association (OBA)
- Basketball Canada
